Senator Luis Jiménez Torres

Luis J. Jimenez Torres was born on May 25, 1982 in the municipality of Aibonito 1982. From an early age he stood out in education, sports and his vocation, public service. He completed his primary grades in the public education system in the municipality of Orocovis, which has been his home throughout his life.

Jimenez Torres has a Bachelor’s degree in Early Education Arts (K-3) from the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico, Barranquitas Campus. Additionally, he completed his Master’s degree in Special Education at the Central University of Bayamón. He also has studies in Secondary Mathematics from the University of Puerto Rico, Utuado Campus.

In his journey through public service he has served as a teacher, Spokesperson for the majority in the Municipal Legislature of Orocovis, as well as President of the Finance, Audit, Comptroller and Property Affairs Commission and the Infrastructure, Transportation, Urban Planning and Environment, as well as Vice President of the Education, Art and Culture Commission.

Likewise, he has worked as a liaison between The Office of Citizen Services, attached to the Governor’s Office and the Department of Education, the Public Buildings Authority, the Department of State, Teacher Retirement System, the Office for Management of Public Schools, Office of Public School Improvement and the Financial Advisory Authority and Fiscal Agency.

His passion is education. Since 2007, Jimenez Torres has worked as a teacher in elementary and higher grades in the subjects of mathematics, Spanish and physical education, focused on developing skills in academic lag, managing to increase the percentage of students who reached higher grades.

On November 5, 2024, he was elected Representative for District Number 26, which includes the municipalities of Orocovis, Barranquitas, Coamo, Corozal and Villalba. He was appointed to chair the Recreation and Sports Commission of the House of Representatives.
