Senator Marially González

Marially González Huertas was born on August 16, 1981, in Utuado, Puerto Rico. She resides in the city of Tierra Alta, Jayuya, the town where she grew up alongside her parents, Hilda Huertas and Jorge “Georgie” González, Mayor of Jayuya. She was educated in the public school system, completing her senior year at Josefina León Zayas High School. She began her university career at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences with a Specialty in Psychology. Subsequently, she graduated from the School Psychology Doctoral Program at the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico, Metro Campus. Dr. González began her professional career offering psychological services and consulting to children, youth, and their families. Her great interest in the well-being of children led her to work as a Mental Health Supervisor in the Head Start and Early Head Start Programs, under the Department of the Family. This program offers services to children and families living below poverty levels. Likewise, she holds several certifications: Certification in International Leadership; Facilitator of the ACT Program, Raising Children in Safe Environments from the American Psychology Association; and from the Support Modules of the Social Emotional Competence of Infants and Preschoolers from the Center on the Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning. During her first term as Senator for the District of Ponce, she had the privilege of serving as Vice President of the Senate, a position that allowed her to promote projects and public policy for the benefit of her district and all of Puerto Rico. Similarly, she chaired the committees on Ethics; Compliance and Restructuring; Internal Affairs; and Youth, Recreation, and Sports. Thanks to her commitment and dedication during the past four years, and validating the work performed, her people honored her by electing her as their Senator for the District of Ponce for a second term. Highlighting her experience and leadership, she was selected by her Delegation as the Alternate Spokesperson for the Popular Democratic Party, with her focus being to continue working for social justice and the well-being of our people. Her love for public service is what drives her day to day to continue working, but her great motivation is her family. She is married to Juan Carlos Santos Pagán and has two adored children, Amanda and Jorge. It is with them and all future generations in mind that her commitment is to contribute to building a better country, ready with the awareness that Puerto Rico needs us all.
