- Born on November 13, 1969, in Columbia, South Carolina.
- Attended the University of Georgia, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1991.
- Later obtained her law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1994.
- Licensed to practice law in South Carolina state courts, the United States District Court for South Carolina, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.
