Dwight A. Loftis, born on February 4, 1943, is an American politician and insurance agent hailing from South Carolina. He has had a long and impactful career in state politics.

South Carolina House of Representatives (1996-2019) For 23 years, from 1996 to 2019, Loftis represented district 19 in the South Carolina House of Representatives. During this time, he worked diligently on various legislative matters, advocating for his constituents.

South Carolina Senate (Since 2019) Since 2019, Loftis has served as a member of the South Carolina Senate, representing the 6th Senate District, which covers a portion of Greenville County. He was initially elected during a special election when incumbent William Timmons moved on to represent South Carolina’s 4th Congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Political Views Loftis holds conservative views. He opposes gay marriage and strongly supports the traditional definition of marriage as being between a man and a woman. Additionally, he voted to keep the Confederate Flag flying above the South Carolina Statehouse. Loftis is a staunch supporter of “law and order,” the Second Amendment, and South Carolina’s “heartbeat bill,” which restricts abortion after six weeks.

Personal Life Dwight Loftis resides in Greenville, South Carolina, with his wife, Sandra Elaine Jones. They have three children. Before entering politics, he obtained an Associate degree from North Greenville University (then known as North Greenville College) in 1966. Loftis worked as an insurance agent before retiring.

His active involvement in the Greenville community extends beyond politics. He has served as a board member and past president of Crime Stoppers of Greenville and has been engaged in educational initiatives.

In 2023, Loftis announced that he would retire and not seek re-election.
