Senator Ed Sutton

Senator Ed Sutton is a Democratic member of the South Carolina State Senate, representing District 20. He assumed office on January 8, 2025, and his current term is set to end in January 2029.

Ed Sutton’s journey into politics is marked by resilience and dedication. Before his tenure in the Senate, Sutton ran for South Carolina House District 114 but faced defeat against Republican Lin Bennett. However, his determination led him to announce his candidacy for the newly redistricted State Senate seat in November 2023. His campaign resonated with voters, and he secured a decisive victory in the November 2024 elections, winning by a margin of nearly 20,000 votes.

Beyond his political career, Sutton has a rich background as a real estate developer and a decorated Air Force pilot. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from The Citadel, earned in 2006, and a Master’s degree from the Air Command and Staff College, completed in 2014. His military service includes active duty from 2006 to 2014 and continued commitment in the Air Force Reserves, where he serves as a Lieutenant Colonel.

Sutton’s contributions extend to community leadership and advocacy. He has held positions such as President Emeritus of the Reynolds Avenue Merchants Association and served on boards for organizations like the National Medal of Honor Museum and Arts Forms & Theater Concepts. His involvement with the Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority and Leadership South Carolina highlights his dedication to regional development and civic engagement.
