Representative Hamilton Grant

Hamilton Grant is a Democratic Party member serving in the South Carolina House of Representatives. He represents District 79, having assumed office on November 11, 2024. His current term is set to conclude on November 9, 2026.

Born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina, Hamilton Grant has dedicated his career to public service and community development. He earned his bachelor’s degree from South Carolina State University in 2011 and later pursued a graduate degree at Alabama A&M University, completing it in 2014. His professional background as a business consultant has equipped him with a strong foundation in financial strategy and organizational leadership.

Grant’s journey into politics began with his commitment to addressing the needs of his community. In 2024, he launched his campaign for the South Carolina House of Representatives, aiming to bring a fresh perspective to District 79. His campaign focused on education reform, economic development, and healthcare accessibility. After winning the Democratic primary against Jonnieka Farr, he went on to secure a decisive victory in the general election against Republican candidate Rebecca Madsen.

Beyond his legislative duties, Grant is actively involved in various community organizations. He has been affiliated with The Columbia Urban League and is a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, as well as Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity. His dedication to fostering opportunities for young people and supporting local businesses has earned him widespread respect among his constituents.

Hamilton Grant is also a devoted family man. He is married to Alana Simmons-Grant, and together they have three children: Hamilton II, Harrison, and Hilton. His wife, Alana, is known for her advocacy work and her role in promoting forgiveness and unity following the tragic Charleston church shooting in 2015.

As a legislator, Grant continues to champion policies that reflect his commitment to equity, innovation, and community empowerment. His leadership style is characterized by collaboration and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by the people of South Carolina.
