Michael Wayne Gambrell (born January 10, 1958) is an American politician and businessman. He has been serving as a member of the South Carolina Senate since 2016, representing the 4th district, which includes portions of Abbeville, Anderson, and Greenwood Counties. Prior to his Senate tenure, Gambrell served in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 2006 to 2016, representing the 7th District.

Early Life and Education: Gambrell was born in Belton, South Carolina, to Aaron and Robbie Gambrell. He graduated with a B.S. from Clemson University in 1980.

Political Career:

  • S.C. House of Representatives (2006-2016): Gambrell represented parts of Anderson County during his time in the House. Notably, he was among the minority of members who voted against opening debate on the removal of the Confederate flag from the South Carolina Capitol grounds after the Charleston church shooting.
  • S.C. Senate (2016-present): Gambrell was first elected to the South Carolina Senate in a special election in 2016, filling the seat left vacant by the untimely death of Senator Billy O’Dell. He has continued to represent the 4th Senate District.
