Senator Overture Walker

Overture Walker is a Democratic Party member serving in the South Carolina State Senate, representing District 22. He assumed office on November 11, 2024, and his current term is set to end on November 13, 2028.

Born in Sumter, South Carolina, Overture Walker pursued his education at the University of South Carolina, earning both a bachelor’s degree and a law degree from its School of Law. His professional journey began as an attorney, where he gained extensive experience in legal practice. Over the years, Walker has held various positions, including serving as an Assistant Public Defender for Richland County and later as a City Prosecutor and Assistant City Attorney for Columbia. His dedication to public service extended to his role as a Municipal Court Judge in Columbia, a position he held from 2015 to 2020.

Walker’s political career took off when he was elected to the Richland County Council in 2020. His leadership skills were recognized, and he was appointed as the chairman of the council in January 2022. In 2024, he decided to run for the South Carolina State Senate to represent District 22. After a competitive Democratic primary runoff, Walker emerged victorious and secured the Democratic nomination. The general election saw him winning the seat with no opposition, marking the beginning of his tenure in the state senate.
