Stewart Olin Jones, born on March 20, 1983, is an American politician currently serving as a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives from the 14th District. He has been in office since 2019 and is affiliated with the Republican party.

Background and Early Life: Stewart Jones is an eighth-generation native of South Carolina. He grew up in Laurens County and attended Thornwell Elementary and High School, graduating in 2001. Later, he earned an Associate’s Degree of Science in Electronic Engineering Technology from Piedmont Technical College in 2009.

Political Career: Jones is a founding member of the South Carolina Freedom Caucus and holds various committee positions within the state legislature. Notably, he chairs the Early Childhood Development Committee and serves as the 2nd Vice Chair of the House Interstate Cooperation Committee. Additionally, he is a member of the House Education and Public Works Committee.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Jones was among the legislators who expressed opposition to labeling businesses as “non-essential” and advocated against ordering their closure. He also played a role in passing legislation to ban federal COVID vaccine mandates and prohibit forced masking, COVID vaccines, and testing in South Carolina K-12 schools and state-funded universities.

Jones supported the Fetal Heartbeat Bill, which was signed into law with exceptions. In 2023, he co-sponsored the South Carolina Prenatal Equal Protection Act, a controversial bill that would make women who had abortions eligible for the death penalty.

In August 2023, Jones helped pass the First Steps Act of South Carolina, aimed at improving education opportunities for every child in the state.

Personal Life: Stewart Jones is married to Kelly, and they have two daughters, Lillie (13) and Emma (10). The family attends Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church in Laurens.

Congressional Campaign: In March 2024, Jones filed to run for the U.S. House of Representatives in South Carolina’s 3rd Congressional District. The incumbent, Jeff Duncan, had announced that he would not seek re-election.
