Thomas D. Corbin (born January 11, 1965) is an American businessman and politician. He has served as a member of the South Carolina Senate from the 5th District since 2012. Prior to that, he spent two years as a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives, representing the 17th District. Corbin is a proud member of the Republican Party.

Early Life and Education: Tom Corbin was born in Greenville, South Carolina, to Barbee and Gail McCarty Corbin. He attended Clemson University, where he graduated in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science degree in ornamental horticulture.

Political Career:

  • S.C. House of Representatives (2010-2012): Corbin was first elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives in 2010, defeating the incumbent Republican Harry Cato. After serving his first term, Corbin ran for reelection uncontested. Simultaneously, he also ran for the State Senate seat when incumbent Senator Phillip Shoopman decided not to seek re-election. Corbin won both races and subsequently resigned his House seat, triggering a special election won by Mike Burns.
  • S.C. Senate (2012-present): Since 2012, Corbin has represented South Carolina’s 5th Senate district, covering parts of Greenville and Spartanburg Counties. He serves on several committees, including finance, fish, game and forestry, labor, commerce and industry, medical affairs, and rules. Corbin is known for his conservative views and is a strong advocate for pro-life policies, gun rights, lower taxes, and reduced government spending.

Medical Cannabis Stance: Corbin has consistently voted against advancing legislation related to medicinal marijuana. In 2024, he successfully introduced an amendment allowing landlords and property owners to prohibit vaping cannabis products in their homes.
