Senator Chris Karr

Chris Karr is a Republican member of the South Dakota State Senate, representing District 11. He assumed office on January 14, 2025, and his current term is set to end on January 12, 2027.

Born and raised in Tabor, South Dakota, Chris Karr has built a career that bridges business and public service. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Economics from South Dakota State University and later pursued a Master of Business Administration from the University of South Dakota. His academic background laid the foundation for his professional journey as a business owner, financial consultant, and Accredited Valuation Analyst.

Karr’s dedication to his community is evident not only in his professional achievements but also in his active involvement in various organizations. Over the years, he has served as an officer, board member, or volunteer for groups such as the YMCA, Junior Achievement, and the El Riad Shrine. His commitment to fostering leadership and education has also led him to teach as an adjunct instructor at both South Dakota State University and the University of South Dakota.

In addition to his professional and community endeavors, Karr has been recognized for his entrepreneurial spirit. He was named the Small Business Administration’s Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 2009 and was a finalist for the South Dakota Governor’s Awards in Business Excellence in 2008. These accolades highlight his ability to drive innovation and contribute meaningfully to the economic landscape of South Dakota.

As a state senator, Karr has focused on representing the voices and concerns of his constituents in District 11.
