Chris Kassin is an American politician and a member of the Republican Party. He has served as a member of the South Dakota House of Representatives from the 17th district since 2023, alongside William Shorma. Kassin graduated from Huron High School and earned a B.S. in criminal justice and corrections, as well as an M.P.A. from the University of South Dakota in 2002 and 2005, respectively.

Recognized for his fiscal conservatism, Chris was elected to his first term in the State House in November 2022. As a first-term member, he was chosen to serve on the House Appropriations Committee, which oversees and sets the state’s budget. In this role, Chris plays a pivotal role in shaping South Dakota’s budget by carefully examining testimony from state agencies and organizations dependent on state funding. He balances their needs along with the best interests of South Dakota’s taxpayers, ensuring a balanced budget that is free of accounting tricks and tactics.

Currently serving as the Vice President of External Relations at the University of South Dakota Foundation, Chris Kassin focuses on engaging diverse stakeholder groups across the state, region, and nation to procure resources enhancing the student experience and promoting accessible education. In addition to his university role, Chris co-owns a small business with his wife, Katie. Previously, he held the position of Vice President of Strategy and Athletic Director at Mount Marty University in Yankton. He also contributed to the University of South Dakota as a men’s basketball assistant coach.
