Senator Glen Vilhauer

Glen Vilhauer is a member of the Republican Party serving in the South Dakota State Senate. He represents District 5 and assumed office on January 14, 2025. His current term is set to end on January 12, 2027.

Born in Tripp, South Dakota, Glen Vilhauer grew up on a family farm, instilling in him values of hard work, faith, and community. He pursued higher education at the University of South Dakota, earning a bachelor’s degree in 1981. After graduation, Glen and his wife, Darla, settled in Watertown, South Dakota, where they raised their three children—Darin, Chad, and Kali—and now enjoy spending time with their six grandchildren.

Professionally, Glen built a successful career as an accountant, serving as a shareholder at Vilhauer Raml & Snyder PC until his retirement in 2015. During his tenure, he contributed to the Taxation and Legislation Committees of the South Dakota CPA Society, showcasing his expertise and commitment to the field. His dedication to public service began with his election to the Watertown City Council in 2015, where he served as Council President and Deputy Mayor until 2023.

Beyond his professional achievements, Glen has been deeply involved in community and state initiatives. He has served on various boards, including the Watertown Area Chamber of Commerce, Prairie Lakes Healthcare System, and Lake Area Technical School Faculty Advisory Board. His active participation in church and civic organizations further highlights his commitment to fostering growth and unity within his community.
