John Wiik, born on March 28, 1972, is an American politician who has been serving in the South Dakota Senate from the 4th district since 2017. He was born in Ortonville, Minnesota, and lived in Big Stone City. He attended K-8th grade at Big Stone City School and graduated in 1990 from Ortonville, MN High School. John graduated from Interstate Business College’s Business Management Program in 1993.

Before his tenure in the Senate, he served in the South Dakota House of Representatives from the 4th district from 2015 to 2017. His professional experience includes working as a production coordinator at KVOX, announcer and music director at KSDR-Watertown, and parts manager at The Shop, Inc.

In addition to his legislative duties, Wiik has been serving as the Chair of the South Dakota Republican Party since January 14, 2023. His leadership in the party has been instrumental in shaping the political landscape of South Dakota.

Throughout his political career, Wiik has been assigned to several committees. In the 2023-2024 legislative session, he was assigned to the Senate Appropriations Committee and the Appropriations Committee. In the 2021-2022 session, he served on the same committees. In the 2019-2020 session, he served as the Co-Chair of the Appropriations Committee, Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, and was a member of the Senate Government Operations and Audit Committee.

Wiik ran for re-election to the South Dakota State Senate to represent District 4 and won in the general election on November 8, 2022. His current term ends on January 14, 2025. However, he will not be able to file for re-election in 2024 due to term limits.
