Representative Dale Carr
Dale Carr (born August 4, 1954) is an American politician and a member of the Republican Party. He represents the 12th district in the Tennessee House of Representatives. Prior to his legislative role, Carr served as an alderman in Sevierville, TN from 2008 to 2012.
In 2012, Carr challenged incumbent Richard Montgomery in the Republican primary election for the 12th district seat. Despite a close race, Carr secured victory with 50.6% of the vote and went on to win the general election unopposed. He has since been re-elected for multiple terms.
Carr actively participates in House committees, including the Property & Planning Subcommittee (where he serves as Chair), the Transportation Committee, the Safety & Funding Subcommittee, and the Naming, Designating, & Private Acts Committee.
Notably, in 2020, Carr voted against removing a bust honoring Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard Nathan Bedford Forrest from the Tennessee State Capitol building. His stance sparked controversy but reflects his commitment to preserving historical context.
In 2023, Carr made headlines by supporting the resolution to expel Democratic lawmakers from the legislature for violating decorum rules—an unprecedented move.
Carr’s electoral record includes victories in the 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2018 elections. Notably, in 2018, he secured 79.9% of the vote in the general election.
Dale Carr’s dedication to public service continues as he seeks re-election for a fifth term in 2024.
