Early Life and Education: Gloria Johnson was born in Denver, Colorado, and moved to Knoxville as a child. She graduated from Farragut High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
Political Career:
- In 2012, Johnson was first elected to represent District 13 in the Tennessee House of Representatives.
- She lost re-election to Eddie Smith in 2014 but successfully defeated him in the 2018 election.
- Johnson was re-elected in 2020.
- Following redistricting, she moved to District 90 and won the seat in 2022.
- In April 2023, she and two other state representatives faced expulsion votes from the Tennessee General Assembly after protesting gun violence on the House floor. Johnson was the only one not expelled.
