Senator Mark Pody

Non-Political Career: Pody owns Educators Resource Association, Inc. in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. His small business specializes in selling insurance policies, including accident and health insurance, group insurance, and life insurance coverage. Notably, they work with Nationwide, Progressive, and BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee. Beyond business, Pody is a member of the Tennessee Firearms Association and various Chambers of Commerce. He has also served as the President of the General Agents & Managers Association. Additionally, Pody is a private pilot and a member of the Civil Air Patrol.

Political Career:

  • In November 2010, Pody won election to the Tennessee General Assembly by defeating the incumbent representative, Democrat Stratton Bone Jr.
  • He secured re-election in 2012, 2014, and 2016, running unopposed in both primary and general elections.
  • In 2017, Pody won a special election to fill the seat vacated by state senator Mae Beavers.
  • In subsequent regular senate elections, he continued to represent District 17.
  • Pody endorsed Rick Santorum as the Republican presidential nominee in 2012.

Political Issues:

  • Religious Freedom: Pody proposed legislation in favor of religious freedom on state college campuses, responding to Vanderbilt University’s "all-comers" policy.
  • Obamacare: He co-sponsored a bill to nullify the implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (commonly known as Obamacare).

Mark Pody’s commitment to smaller government and his active role in Tennessee politics make him a notable figure in the state’s political landscape.
