Background: A graduate of Robstown High School, Herrero’s commitment to public service was evident when he served on the Robstown City Council from 1999 to 2003. His educational journey includes earning a B.A. in political science from Texas A&M University in 1993 and a J.D. from the University of Texas in 1997. Married to Matilda since 1993, they share a family with five children.

Election History: Herrero’s political trajectory has seen both victories and setbacks. Holding his legislative position continuously since 2013, he previously represented the district from 2005 to 2011 before being temporarily unseated by Republican Connie Scott in the 2010 election. However, in November 2012, Herrero reclaimed the position. His dedication was reaffirmed in the general election on November 6, 2018, securing his seventh nonconsecutive term with 25,193 votes (61 percent) against Republican candidate Chris Hale.
