Jefferson Burton is a member of the Utah House of Representatives, representing District 64. He assumed office on January 1, 2023, and his current term ends on January 1, 2025. Prior to this, he served in the Utah House of Representatives District 66. His predecessor in District 64 was Norman Thurston, and his successor in District 66 was Steven Lund.

Burton ran for re-election to the Utah House of Representatives to represent District 64 and won in the general election on November 8, 2022. He served in the U.S. Army from 1984 to 2012 and reached the rank of major general. He earned a B.S. in sociology from the University of the State of New York, an M.A. in educational leadership from the University of Phoenix, and a master’s degree in strategic studies from the United States Army War College.

His career experience includes working as a state administrative officer for Bennion Veterans Home with the Utah Department of Veterans and Military Affairs, the commanding general and director of personnel with the U.S. Army/National Guard, and the senior vice president of community development with Zions Bank. He serves on the board of directors for the Sutherland Institute and the Gale Halvorsen Foundation.

During his tenure, Burton has been assigned to various committees including the Senate Business and Labor Committee, House Ethics Committee, Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Committee, and the Political Subdivisions Committee. He has sponsored several pieces of legislation, contributing to the development and progress of his district and the state of Utah.
