Senator Jerry Stevenson
Jerry W. Stevenson is an American politician and a Republican member of the Utah State Senate. He has been representing District 6 since 2023. Prior to the redistricting, he represented District 21 following his appointment on January 25, 2010, to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Sheldon Killpack.
Stevenson has a rich history in public service. He was the mayor of Layton from 1994 until 2006. He has also worked as a Weber State University Trustee, the Wasatch Integrated Energy Chair, and as the UTA Rail Committee Chair. His primary profession is as a private business owner.
Stevenson attended Utah State University and has had a diverse career. He has served on the Weber State University Board of Trustees (chair), Envision Utah (former chair), DATC Board of Trustees, and Layton City Government. He was part of the Layton City Planning Commission for 6 years, Layton City Council for 8 years, and was the Layton City Mayor for 12 years.
Stevenson was appointed to his Senate seat on January 25, 2010. He has served on several committees during his tenure as a Senator for the Utah Senate. In 2016, Stevenson served on the Business, Economic Development, and Labor Appropriations Subcommittee, Executive Appropriations Committee (Senate Vice Chair), Higher Education Appropriations Subcommittee, Senate Economic Development and Workforce Services Committee, Senate Education Committee, and Senate Ethics Committee.
Stevenson’s current committees include the Economic Development and Workforce Services Interim Committee, Executive Appropriations Committee, Higher Education Appropriations Subcommittee, Point of the Mountain Development Commission, Political Subdivisions Interim Committee, Public Education Appropriations Subcommittee, Senate Business and Labor Committee, Senate Business and Labor Confirmation Committee, Senate Economic Development and Workforce Services Committee, Senate Economic Development and Workforce Services Confirmation Committee, Senate Judiciary, Law Enforcement, and Criminal Justice Committee, and Senate Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Environment Confirmation Committee.
In terms of elections, Stevenson has had a successful run. In the 2022 Utah State Senate Election for District 6, he secured 100% of the votes. In the 2018 Utah State Senate Election for District 21, he secured 71.7% of the votes. And in the 2014 Utah State Senate Election for District 21, he secured 78.3% of the votes.
