Representative Jim Dunnigan
Jim Dunnigan is a member of the Republican Party and a representative of District 36 in the Utah House of Representatives. He assumed office on January 1, 2023, and his current term ends on January 1, 2025. He ran for re-election to the Utah House of Representatives to represent District 36 and won in the general election on November 8, 2022.
Jim Dunnigan lives in Taylorsville, Utah. He earned his B.S. in business management from the University of Utah in 1976. Dunnigan was the owner and insurance broker of Dunnigan Insurance from 1976 to 2004. He served as the state delegate of the Republican Party from 1990 to 1992 and was a councilman on the Taylorsville-Bennion Community Council from 1991 to 1996. From 1996 to 2002, he served on the Taylorsville City Council. Dunnigan then served as county delegate for the Republican Party from 2002 to 2004.
In terms of committee assignments, Dunnigan has been assigned to various committees over the years. For the 2023-2024 term, he was assigned to the Senate Business and Labor Committee and the Political Subdivisions Committee, where he served as Chair. He had similar assignments in the 2021-2022 term. In the 2019-2020 term, he served as Chair of the House Business and Labor Committee and was a member of the Political Subdivisions Committee.
Dunnigan was born on March 31, 1953, in Salt Lake City. Outside of politics, Dunnigan owns an insurance agency. He served as a member of the Taylorsville/Bennion Community Council and Taylorsville City Council. During the 2015 and 2016 general sessions, Dunnigan served as the House’s majority leader. He was challenged by Brad Wilson for the position in 2016 and ultimately dropped out of the leadership race before voting took place. He currently lives in Taylorsville, Utah with his wife Vicki and two children.
