Representative Verona Mauga

Verona Mauga is a member of the Democratic Party serving in the Utah House of Representatives. She represents District 31, Mauga assumed office on January 1, 2025, and her current term is set to end on January 1, 2027.

Born in Kahuku, Hawaii, Mauga moved to Utah as a child and grew up in West Valley City. Her journey into public service has been marked by a deep commitment to her community and a passion for advocacy. She made history as the first Samoan elected to the Utah State Legislature and the first Samoan woman elected to any state legislature in the continental United States. This groundbreaking achievement reflects her dedication to amplifying underrepresented voices and fostering inclusive communities.

Mauga is not only a legislator but also a successful entrepreneur. She operates Sagato Bakery & Cafe and My Choice Utah, which have provided her with firsthand experience in addressing the challenges faced by families and small business owners. Her professional background in mental and behavioral health further equips her to champion solutions that uplift individuals and strengthen communities.

In the Utah House of Representatives, Mauga serves on several committees, including the Economic Development & Technology and Judiciary standing committees, as well as the Economic Development & Technology Appropriations Committee. Her legislative priorities focus on driving economic growth, supporting small businesses, fostering innovation, and creating opportunities for all Utahns. She has also co-founded impactful community initiatives, such as Le Malu, which amplifies Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander voices in Utah.
