David Weeks is a member of the Vermont State Senate, representing Rutland District. He assumed office on January 4, 2023. His current term ends on January 8, 2025.

David Hart Weeks was born on December 21, 1960, in Gales Ferry, Connecticut. He is the youngest of five children born to Geraldine A. Backensto and Robert H. Weeks. His father was a U.S. Navy Captain and businessman who also served two terms in the Vermont House of Representatives from Wallingford. David graduated from Mill River Union High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science from the University of Vermont. He furthered his education with an MBA in Project Management from the University of San Diego, a Master of Strategic Studies from the Army War College, and a Master of Public Administration from Villanova University.

David Weeks began his military career by enlisting in the U.S. Marines Company B, 1st BN, 25th Marines. After completing his education, he joined the U.S. Navy, where he served as the Chief Engineer on the USS Mobile Bay. In 1997, he transitioned to the United States Navy Reserve. Following the September 11 attacks, he was mobilized and deployed three times, including to the Iraq/Kuwait border, where he participated in the 2003 invasion of Iraq. He retired from the U.S. Navy in 2013 as a Captain.

After transitioning from active duty in 1997, David Weeks pursued a career in business. He has held various high-level program management positions in the defense and security sectors within the United States, Europe, East Asia, and the Middle East. He specialized in leading commercial high-tech, internationally sensitive projects valued in the billions.

David Weeks was elected to the Vermont Senate in 2022, representing the Rutland County Senate district as one of three at-large senators. He ran on an economic platform focusing on infrastructure and business development. In the Senate, he serves as the Vice Chair of the Senate Health and Welfare Committee and is a member of the Senate Education Committee, the Legislative Committee on Rules, and the School Construction Task Force.

David Weeks is married to Dr. Leeanne Wootten, PhD, who is the Superintendent for an international school overseas. They have two children, Jacob and Sarah, who are professionals in accounting and medicine, respectively. David is an active member of his community, serving on the Boy/Girl Scout Council Executive Board of Directors and the Eagle Scout Alumni Association Board of Directors. He enjoys scuba diving, camping, hiking, backpacking, snowshoeing, marksmanship, archery, archaeology, zymurgy, kayaking, snowmobiling, and antique vehicle restoration.

David Weeks is a member of several professional associations, including the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Iraq Veterans of America, Navy League, and Naval Institute.
