About Representative Karen Lueders
Lueders of Lincoln represents the Towns of Bristol, Lincoln, Monkton and Starksboro. After graduating from Vermont Law School in 1985, Lueders worked for a small Burlington law firm, then worked with the Vermont Supreme Court in its newly-founded Case Flow Management Project, and then worked as an assistant to Legislative Counsel for both the House and Senate Judiciary Committees for one legislative session. At that time, Lueders commuted over the Green Mountains from Lincoln to Montpelier daily in the excellent company of her Appalachian Gap Van, Inc. commuter van mates. Once children began arriving that commute was no longer practical and so in 1988, Lueders put up a shingle on Main Street in Bristol, where she has had a solo, general practice law firm since that time. Her early practice included litigation and public defender and juvenile work and then as the family grew, transitioned to more transactional work. Lueders has served on a number of municipal boards, has been an active volunteer in the schools, and has also served on a number of Addison County nonprofit boards, including Habitat for Humanity, Addison County Home Health and Hospice and currently, on Addison Housing Works, the nonprofit for affordable housing. Lueders believes that the civil and human rights of each person is of paramount importance and that the Rule of Law, Due Process, and governance by “we the people” are essential to our civil society and must be fiercely defended. The security and stability of her neighbors in matters of housing, health, food security, quality education, jobs, and opportunities for each person to reach their full potential, are priorities. The protection of the Environment is fundamental to the health and well-being of all Vermonters. Lueders has a deep and abiding love of the creative process, including personally, in the realm of music, but more broadly, in the visual, literary, film, theater, dance, ceramic, fabric, wood-work and crafting arts, and all those endeavors that activate the creative spirit and elevate our world and the way we think about it and experience it. Alongside her law practice, Lueders, with the help of many folks in the community, ran the WalkOver Gallery and Concert Room for 17 years, a place of joy and cultural richness. After 40 years of living, working and playing in the towns she now represents, it is now a tremendous responsibility and privilege to represent the folks of Bristol, Lincoln, Monkton and Starksboro.
