Early Life and Education Lee Ware was born on August 20, 1952, in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. He is the oldest of three children of Robert Lee Ware, Sr., and Nance Caroline (Brooks) Ware. His ancestry includes English and Finnish roots. Notably, his great-great-great-great grandfather, Henry Ware, Sr., was a founder of Harvard Divinity School and twice acted as president of Harvard University. Lee’s great-great grandfather, Colonel Francis Lowell Lee, served in the 44th Massachusetts Regiment.

After graduating from Lunenburg High School in 1970, Lee pursued a double major in History and Literature at Wheaton College in Illinois. His thirst for knowledge led him to undertake graduate studies at various institutions, including Harvard College, Asbury Seminary, Northeastern University, Longwood College, and Virginia Commonwealth University.

Professional Career Lee Ware’s career has been marked by a commitment to education, community, and public service. Here are some highlights:

  1. Journalism and Community Engagement :

    • In 1980, Lee began his career in journalism with The Monadnock Ledger in Peterborough, New Hampshire. His desire to immerse himself in a traditional rural Southern community brought him to Virginia, where he became the editor of The Powhatan Gazette in 1981.
    • He served as Assistant Headmaster of Lexington Christian Academy in Massachusetts before returning to Virginia.
  2. Teaching and Civic Leadership :

    • From 1984, Lee taught History and Government at Powhatan High School.
    • Following his reception into the Catholic Church, he joined the faculty of Blessed Sacrament Huguenot Academy, where he continued to teach History and Government until 2013.
    • The James Madison Foundation recognized him as an Outstanding Teacher of the Constitution during this time.
  3. Political Service :

    • Lee Ware’s commitment to public service extended to local government. He chaired the Board of Supervisors of Powhatan County from 1988 to 1996 and also led the Powhatan County Social Services Board during the same period.
    • He served on the Virginia State Board of Education from 1995 to 1997.

    • Lee Ware represents the 65th House District and is currently the Republican candidate for re-election from the new 72nd District.
