Representative Clyde Shavers
Representative Clyde Shavers has been serving as the State Representative for Washington’s 10th Legislative District. His district includes all of Island County and portions of Skagit and Snohomish County. Clyde Shavers has held this position since 2023.
Background and Military Service: Before entering politics, Clyde served our nation as a member of the United States Navy for 8 years. His tours included U.S. Naval Forces Central Command/U.S. 5th Fleet in the Middle East and Destroyer Squadron 7 in Southeast Asia. He is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy.
Education and Legal Career: Following his military service, Rep. Shavers pursued higher education. He graduated from Yale Law School, where he studied environmental law with the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). During his time at Yale, he also established the student group “Yale Coalition to End Homelessness.”
Legislative Roles: As a legislator, Clyde Shavers currently serves as Vice Chair of the House Education Committee. Additionally, he is a member of the Capital Budget Committee, the Innovation, Community and Economic Development Committee, and the Veterans Committee. His legislative efforts span a wide range of topics, including clean energy technology, support for military children, career learning opportunities for students, funding for food banks, rural community assistance, and unemployment insurance for workers.
Community Involvement: Clyde Shavers actively contributes to his local community. He volunteers and serves on the boards of organizations such as Skagit Friendship House, a faith-based group that assists Mount Vernon’s homeless and working poor, and South Whidbey’s Goosefoot, which works to build affordable housing.
