Senator Jessica Bateman

Jessica Bateman is a Democratic member of the Washington State Senate, representing the 22nd Legislative District. She assumed office on January 13, 2025, and her current term is set to end in January 2029.

Jessica Bateman has dedicated her career to public service and advocacy, with a focus on creating inclusive and equitable communities. A lifelong resident of the Pacific Northwest, she grew up in a single-parent, working-class household, which shaped her commitment to addressing the needs of vulnerable populations. Her early experiences inspired her to pursue a career in public policy and community development.

Before joining the State Senate, Bateman served as a member of the Washington House of Representatives, representing the same district. During her tenure in the House, she was known for her efforts to tackle housing affordability, expand access to healthcare, and promote environmental sustainability. She also played a key role in passing legislation aimed at increasing housing construction and addressing the state’s housing crisis.

Bateman’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies and a Master of Public Policy from Evergreen State College. She is a first-generation college graduate, and her academic achievements reflect her determination to overcome challenges and make a difference in her community.

In addition to her legislative work, Bateman has been actively involved in local government and community organizations. She served on the Olympia City Council, where she worked to pass a Sanctuary City Resolution and advocated for policies that support working families and at-risk youth. Her leadership and dedication have earned her recognition as a passionate and effective advocate for social justice and equity.
