Senator T'wina Nobles
T’wina T. Nobles (née Fields, formerly T’wina Franklin, born 1981) is an American politician who represents the 28th Legislative District in Washington State. Elected in 2020, she is the first Black state senator to serve in a decade.
Senator Nobles brings two decades of experience in education and community leadership to her role. She chairs the Higher Education & Workforce Development Committee and serves as vice chair of the Early Learning & K-12 Education Committee. Additionally, she is a member of the Transportation Committee.
Education has been central to Senator Nobles’s life. She attended Tacoma Community College before transferring to the University of Puget Sound, where she earned her undergraduate degree and a Master of Arts in Teaching. She then taught at Stadium High School and Lincoln High School.
Since 2016, Senator Nobles has served on the University Place School Board, advocating for equity, inclusion, and transparency. Her commitment to education extends to addressing pressing issues such as broadband access for all students and creating opportunities for continued learning within the community.
In her role as a state senator, Senator Nobles focuses on constituents’ concerns, including housing stabilization, environmental justice, and accessible transportation. She originally moved to the 28th Legislative District when her family was stationed at Joint Base Lewis McChord (formerly Fort Lewis). She now resides in Fircrest with her family and has lived in the district for nearly two decades.
