Amy Nichole Grady, born October 15, 1979, is an American teacher and politician. She currently serves as the junior West Virginia State Senator from the 4th district, having held this position since 2020. Grady is a member of the Republican Party.

Early Life and Education: Amy Grady received her Bachelor of Education degree from Marietta College and West Virginia University. Before entering politics, she worked as a teacher.

Political Journey: Inspired by her participation in the 2018 West Virginia teachers’ strike, Grady decided to run for office. Her opponent in the primary was Lt. Governor Mitch Carmichael, who had opposed pay raises for teachers and supported charter schools. Despite being significantly outspent, Grady won the primary election with 39.12% of the vote. In the general election, she defeated Democrat Bruce Ashworth with 70.69% of the vote.

Committee Assignments: As a state senator, Grady chairs the West Virginia Senate Education Committee and serves as Vice Chair of the Health and Human Resources Committee. She has been an advocate for allowing public funds to be used for private schools and has supported legislation related to school staff raises.

Transgender Rights and Other Positions: Grady sponsored Senate Bill 341, which requires transgender athletes to compete in sports associated with their biological sex. Additionally, she joined fellow senators in opposing bills that would grant statehood to the District of Columbia.

Personal Life: Amy Grady is married to Jack L. Grady and is a Christian. She has three children.
