Representative Samba Baldeh
Born in Choya Village, The Gambia, on September 10, 1971, Samba Baldeh is an American information technology professional and Democratic politician. He made Madison, Wisconsin, his home in 2000 to pursue further education. Baldeh became a U.S. citizen in 2005. Prior to his political career, he worked as a software engineer, information technology project manager, and small business owner.
Samba Baldeh has been an active community member, serving as a City of Madison alder for District 17 (including a term as Common Council president). In 2020, he was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly, representing the 48th Assembly district. Notably, he holds the distinction of being the first Muslim member of the Wisconsin Legislature.
Baldeh’s commitment to public service extends to various organizations, including 100 Black Men of Madison, YALI–UW Madison (Mandela Washington fellowship program for Young African Leaders Initiative), NAACP (Dane County chapter), and the University of Wisconsin–Madison Community Advisory Council.
He has authored, co-authored, and cosponsored several legislative proposals, addressing issues such as PFAS regulation, tax rebates, gun violence prevention, and estate planning document notarization.
As a full-time legislator, Samba Baldeh continues to contribute to the well-being of his community and the state of Wisconsin.
