Steve Doyle, born May 21, 1958, is an American politician affiliated with the Democratic Party. He assumed office as a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly, representing District 94, on May 17, 2011.
Representative Steve Doyle
Steven P. Doyle (born May 21, 1958) is an American lawyer and Democratic politician hailing from La Crosse County, Wisconsin. He has been serving as a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly, representing the 94th Assembly district since May 2011. This district covers most of La Crosse County outside of the city of La Crosse.
Background and Personal Life:
- Born in La Crosse, Doyle graduated from Aquinas High School in 1976.
- He then went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse in 1980.
- In 1986, he received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School.
- Doyle practices law in La Crosse and has also taught local and state government as well as the American legal system at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
- He’s been happily married to his wife, Gloria, for over 30 years, and they have two daughters, Katelyn and Stephanie.
- The Doyle family resides in Onalaska, Wisconsin, where they even raise alpacas!
Elected Office:
- In 1984, Doyle ran for the 94th Wisconsin State Assembly district (which includes rural and suburban La Crosse County) to succeed fellow Democrat Virgil Roberts.
- Although he won the primary election with a plurality, he narrowly lost in the general election.
- Doyle was first elected to the La Crosse County Board of Supervisors in 1986 and served as chair from 2002 to 2011.
- He has continued to serve on the county board throughout his terms in the Assembly.
- On May 3, 2011, Doyle was elected to the Assembly in a special election, replacing Republican Michael Huebsch.
- Since then, he has been re-elected six times and most recently defeated Michael Huebsch’s son, Ryan, in the 2022 general election.
