Representative William Meyers Colmer

William Meyers Colmer (born February 11, 1890) was a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives from Mississippi. He represented Mississippi’s 5th Congressional District and served as a Representative for four decades, from March 9, 1933, until January 3, 1973. Over the course of his long tenure, he completed 20 terms in Congress, marking him as a historically significant member of the House from his state.

Colmer’s congressional service began in the early 1930s and extended into the early 1970s, a period that encompassed major political, social, and economic changes in the United States.
