Matthew David “Matt” Klein was born on September 29, 1967, in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He grew up in Saint Paul and graduated from Highland Park High School in 1985. After high school, he attended the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree.

Following his undergraduate studies, Klein went on to graduate as a Doctor of Medicine from Mayo Medical School. His career has been marked by his dedication to medicine, working as a physician.

In addition to his medical career, Klein has also been active in politics. He was elected to the West St. Paul–Mendota Heights–Eagan School Board in 2012. His political career took a significant leap when he was elected as a member of the Minnesota Senate in 2016. He represents District 53 in the southeastern Twin Cities metropolitan area. He is a member of the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL).

In the Minnesota Senate, Klein serves on several committees. He is the Chair of the Commerce and Consumer Protection committee and the Vice Chair of the Taxes committee. He also serves on the Energy, Utilities, Environment, and Climate committee.

Klein and his wife, Kristine, have five children and reside in Mendota Heights, Minnesota. Despite his busy schedule, Klein manages to balance his responsibilities as a physician, a senator, and a family man.
