Project Origins

SenGov was founded by John Hashim, a United States Marine Corps veteran with a passion for civic engagement and public service. Born in a refugee camp in Africa before coming to the United States through the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) program, Mr. Hashim’s unique perspective on democracy and citizen participation drives the mission of SenGov.

Following his education in web development through Hope Works and professional experience in the technology sector, Mr. Hashim served honorably in the United States Marine Corps, fulfilling a lifelong commitment to service. After completing his military service in 2025, he has dedicated his efforts to improving civilian access to government information.

His experiences as both an immigrant and a veteran highlighted the need for accessible government information, inspiring the creation of SenGov as a non-partisan resource for all Americans.
