James W. Tierney, Jr. is a member of the Republican Party and currently serves in the New Hampshire House of Representatives, representing Coos 1. He assumed office on December 7, 2022, and his current term ends on December 4, 2024.

Before his election to the New Hampshire House of Representatives, Tierney was a 2012 Republican candidate for Coos 2 of the New Hampshire House of Representatives. He ran for election to represent Coos 1 and won in the general election on November 8, 2022.

In addition to his political career, Tierney has a distinguished service record in the U.S. Air Force. After his military service, he worked in retail and auto sales and served as a disaster assistance employee with FEMA. He has also served on the Groveton Regional Economic Action Team (GREAT) and as a selectman for Northumberland, New Hampshire.

In the 2023-2024 legislative session, Tierney was assigned to the Legislative Administration Committee. His work in the committee is part of his ongoing commitment to serving the people of New Hampshire.

In the 2022 elections, Tierney and incumbent Troy Merner defeated Cathleen Fountain in the general election for New Hampshire House of Representatives Coos 1. The election results were as follows:

  • James Tierney (R): 36.7% (1,446 votes)
  • Troy Merner (R): 35.0% (1,380 votes)
  • Cathleen Fountain (D): 28.2% (1,110 votes)
