Representative Jonathan Smith

Jonathan Smith is a retired FDNY firefighter with a distinguished career dedicated to public service. Married for twenty-five years, Jonathan and his wife have two children: a 21-year-old son and a 19-year-old daughter. After high school, Jonathan enlisted in the United States Marine Corps as a C130 mechanic. Following a medical discharge, he pursued studies in electronics technology at DeVry University, graduating with a GPA of 3.72.

Jonathan began his professional career as an electronics technician at 3M but later transitioned to law enforcement, joining the NYPD as a police officer. His exemplary service in the NYPD led to his appointment to the FDNY as a firefighter. During his tenure with the FDNY, Jonathan participated in the largest rescue operation on American soil following the September 11, 2001, attack on the World Trade Center.

Upon retirement, Jonathan and his wife moved out of New York in search of small government, individual liberty, and respect for private property rights. They found their ideal home in New Hampshire, a state that cherishes freedom and liberty. Jonathan is committed to defending these values and upholding his oath to the Constitution. He meticulously reviews each piece of legislation for its constitutionality and its impact on limiting government power.

Jonathan is actively involved in local government. He has served on the Budget Committee, as a Trustee of Trust Funds, and as Deputy Treasurer. Currently, he is a member of the Planning Board and serves as the Chairman of the Ossipee Select Board.
