Representative Kate Murray
Kate Rushford Murray is a distinguished member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives, representing Rockingham - District 22. She has been serving in this position since 2022 and her current term ends in 2024.
Kate was born and raised in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont and attended Sacred Heart High School in Newport, VT. Her college career took her from the University of North Carolina to graduate schools at the University of Connecticut and the University of Illinois, where she earned a doctoral degree in Music Education. She then attended Santa Clara University and the University of California at Berkeley, where she earned a second doctoral degree, in Religious Studies.
She has had a diverse career, having served as an Assistant Professor of Music at the University of California at Los Angeles, a software trainer for Frame Technology, a company that created software for technical publishing, and then as an independent consultant to high tech companies while raising her two children, Hannah and Paul.
Kate has written numerous articles as well as two books, and has led frequent discussions in the fields of both music and religious art. She has served on a number of statewide boards in New Hampshire, including the Women’s Fund of New Hampshire, the Currier Museum, as well as local boards, including the Piscataqua Regional Board of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, The Music Hall, the Portsmouth Athenaeum and the Portsmouth Historical Society.
She currently resides in New Castle where she is a member of both the Planning Board and the Historic District Commission of New Castle. She also presently serves on the board of the Portsmouth Symphony.
In her role as a representative, she is a member of the Finance Committee and Finance - Division II Committee. Her dedication to public service and her diverse experiences make her a valuable asset to the New Hampshire House of Representatives.
