Mark MacKenzie is an American politician and labor leader from the state of New Hampshire. He is a member of the Democratic Party and serves in the New Hampshire House of Representatives.

MacKenzie’s journey began in Everett, Massachusetts. In 1974, he moved to Manchester, New Hampshire when he was appointed to the Manchester Fire Department. He served the department for 25 years and retired as a Captain. During his tenure, he joined the International Association of Firefighters and has been a card-carrying dues-paying member for 50 years.

In addition to his service in the fire department, MacKenzie has been a prominent figure in the labor movement. He became the president of the New Hampshire chapter of the AFL’CIO in 1989 and served through 2015. His leadership in the labor movement extended beyond the state level. In fact, he became the longest-serving State President in the country with a career spanning more than 25 years.

MacKenzie’s political career has been marked by his commitment to workers’ rights and progressive values. He has been recognized nationally for his numerous legislative and political achievements which include increasing the minimum wage, improving public sector pension benefits, implementing post-retirement medical benefits, expanding card check neutrality for public employees, guaranteeing COLA adjustments for public employees, securing best value contracting legislation, expanding safety standards training to public employees and reforming the workers compensation system, and achieving equal pay legislation. He has been a leader in many legislative battles, including defeating anti-worker “right to work” legislation 18 times.

In 2018, MacKenzie ran for the United States House of Representatives in New Hampshire’s 1st congressional district. Although he did not win, his campaign demonstrated his commitment to the people of New Hampshire and his dedication to progressive values.

In 2022, MacKenzie was reelected to the New Hampshire House of Representatives and received the highest number of votes in the state. He served in the House from 2016-2018 and served on the Labor Committee.

Mark MacKenzie is an honor graduate of The University of New Hampshire (Master’s in public administration) and Franklin Pierce College (B.S.) and is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society. He also attended Harvard University (Trade Union Program) sponsored by the International Association of Firefighters and holds alumni status.

Throughout his career, Mark MacKenzie has been at the forefront of virtually all successful Democratic campaigns over the past several decades in New Hampshire. His leadership and dedication to the people of New Hampshire have made him a respected figure in the state’s political landscape.
