Maureen Mooney is an American attorney, educator, and politician serving as a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives from the Hillsborough 21 district. She was elected in November 2020 and assumed office on December 2, 2020. Mooney previously served as a member of the House from 2002 to 2008.

Maureen Mooney is an American attorney, educator, and politician serving as a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives from the Hillsborough 21 district. She was elected in November 2020 and assumed office on December 2, 2020. Mooney previously served as a member of the House from 2002 to 2008.

Mooney has resided in Merrimack for over two decades. She is in her fifth term representing Merrimack in the New Hampshire House of Representatives (2002-2008 and 2020-present). Currently, Mooney serves on the Finance Committee (Vice Chairman, Division III). Additionally, she is a co-chair of the Speaker’s Advisory Group, and an alternate on the Fiscal Committee. Previously, she served as an Assistant Republican Leader, an Assistant Majority Whip, a member of the House Rules Committee, and a three-term member of the Judiciary Committee, where she was appointed Clerk. Among numerous other committees, the Speaker of the House appointed her to chair the Special Committee on Eminent Domain which drafted the language of Part First, Article 12-a of the N.H. Constitution, adopted by the voters in 2006.

Mooney earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the Thomas More College of Liberal Arts, a Juris Doctor from the Massachusetts School of Law, and a Master of Education from New England College. From 2009-2014, she was the Associate Dean of a history completion college established by the Massachusetts School of Law as an innovative undergraduate program for nontraditional students seeking admittance to law school. From 2014-2020, she held leadership positions at the second largest “bricks and mortar” charter school in New Hampshire, which focuses on a mission of character, leadership, history and liberty for grades 6-12. Upon her departure in 2020, the school named its library after her.

Mooney serves on the Advisory Board of the Academy of the Holy Family in Baltic, Connecticut and is a Trustee of The Thomas More College of Liberal Arts where she was the Corporate Secretary for 15 years. In 2017, she was the first alumna of Thomas More College to receive its highest honor, the Thomas More Medal, for exemplary service and support to the school. Maureen has been a member of and held various positions in local, county, and state party committees including chairman of the Platform Committee (2002), secretary of the party (2001-2007), and delegate to the Republican National Convention (2008). Since 2000, Merrimack voters have repeatedly elected her a Delegate to the N.H. Republican State Convention. In 2012, she was appointed a member of the Electoral College for the Republican Presidential nominee. In 2014, she finished second in the crowded Republican primary for State Senate in Senate District 11, winning the vote in Merrimack. In 2006, she was named one of the New Hampshire Union Leader’s “40 Under Forty,” which recognizes outstanding New Hampshire residents under the age of 40. In 2012, she was named a “40 Under Forty” in Merrimack Valley Business Magazine. She is also featured in the book, “Women at the Table: 40 Intimate Profiles of Political Women of the Northeast” published by L&L Dreamspell in 2008. She is a member and past president of the Rotary Club of Merrimack and a member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.
