Representative Julie von Haefen
Julie Marie von Haefen was born on February 4, 1971, in West Chester Township, Butler County, Ohio, U.S. She is a Democratic member of the North Carolina House of Representatives, who has represented the State’s 36th district, which includes constituents in Southern Wake County, since 2019.
Before her political career, von Haefen was a Parent Teacher Association (PTA) leader at the school, county, and state level. She served as the President of the Wake County PTA Council and on the Executive Board for five years.
In the 2018 general election, von Haefen unseated longtime incumbent Nelson Dollar. She won with 49 percent of the vote to 48 percent for Dollar. In 2020, von Haefen defeated her Republican opponent, Kim Coley, winning 53.2 percent of the vote while Coley received 43.1 percent.
During the 2021-2022 Session, she was assigned to several committees including Appropriations, Appropriations - General Government, Homeland Security, Military, and Veterans Affairs, Local Government, and State Government.
As a representative, von Haefen has worked hard to reach across the aisle to create long-term solutions for public schools, lower the cost of health care for families, and be a legislator that is accountable to her constituents.
She is an alumna of Ohio University (BA) and Case Western Reserve University (JD), and she worked as an attorney before entering politics. She currently resides in Apex, North Carolina, U.S., with her spouse Roger and their three children.
