Representative Jon Hansen
Jon Hansen serves as a representative for the 25th Legislative District in the South Dakota House of Representatives. A member of the Republican Party, he previously held the position of Speaker pro tempore of the South Dakota House of Representatives. Early Life and Education: Jon Hansen was born in Yankton, South Dakota. When he was six years old, his father passed away, and six years later, his family moved to Dell Rapids, South Dakota. There, he grew up alongside his two sisters. Hansen attended Southeast Technical Institute, earning an associate degree in business administration. He continued his education at the University of Sioux Falls, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in business management. Later, he graduated with Sterling Honors from the University of South Dakota School of Law.
Career: Hansen is a lawyer at Dell Rapids Law Firm in Dell Rapids, South Dakota. His legal practice includes representing families as their adoption attorney.
Political Career:
- In 2010, Hansen defeated incumbent Democrat Oran Sorenson, securing a seat in the South Dakota House of Representatives.
- He was reelected in 2012.
- In 2013, Hansen temporarily left public office to attend the University of South Dakota School of Law.
- In 2018, he returned to the South Dakota House of Representatives by defeating incumbent Democrat Dan Ahlers. Hansen also won a Republican primary election earlier that year.
