Senator Sam Hunt
Samuel William Hunt, born on December 9, 1942, is an American politician and educator. He has served as a member of the Washington State Senate from the 22nd district since 2017. Prior to that, Hunt spent 16 years in the Washington House of Representatives.
Early Life and Education: Hunt was born in Billings, Montana. He obtained a degree and teaching certificate from Washington State University. Later, he pursued post-graduate studies at both Washington State University and the University of Oregon.
Career: Hunt’s career spans various roles. He worked as a public school teacher in Pasco and Montesano. Additionally, he served as Governor Booth Gardner’s Special Assistant for K-12 Education. His dedication to education and public service led him to the Washington House of Representatives, where he served from 2001 to 2017. During his tenure, he championed various legislative initiatives.
In 2017, Hunt transitioned to the Washington State Senate, representing the 22nd District. As a senator, he chairs the State Government, Tribal Relations, and Elections Committee. He also contributes to the Early Learning and K-12 Education Committee and the Ways & Means Committee.
Personal Life: Hunt was married to Charlene Hunt for 47 years until her passing in 2017. He has two grown children and currently resides in Olympia, Washington.
